New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW), the nationally-recognized festival of entrepreneurship that celebrates and supports the network of talent that has enabled New Orleans to become a hub of entrepreneurship and innovation, is the culmination of The Idea Village’s annual Entrepreneurship Season. New Orleans Entrepreneur Week kicked off Saturday. Organizers said that NOEW is a nationally recognized festival that celebrates and supports the network of talent that enables the city to become a hub of entrepreneurship and innovation. For seven days, nationally-renowned venture capitalists, angel investors, business professionals corporate volunteers, and policy leaders along with visiting MBA student teams from the nation’s leading business programs, come together to support local entrepreneurs and the growing New Orleans entrepreneurial eco-system.

Jobless Claims Improve

Americans filing for first time jobless claims last week declined in another sign of an improving labor market.The Labor Department reported Thursday that 372,000 people filed for first-time benefits, down 15,000 from the revised reading for the week below.

Private Sector Hiring Jumps in December

Private-sector companies significantly ramped up their hiring in December, according to a report issued Thursday.The private sector added a seasonally adjusted 325,000 jobs during the month, up from 204,000 in November, payroll-processing firm ADP said. It marked the biggest monthly gain since December 2010, and was stronger than expected.

Unexpected Boost – President Obama, Job Creator

The economy has already added about 2.7 million jobs since employment bottomed out at the beginning of 2010. If the economy keeps adding 200,000 jobs per month, on average, it would mean another 2 million new jobs by the time Election Day rolls around. That would allow Obama to say–accurately–that under his stewardship, the economy has added nearly 5 million new jobs over the last two years.
